Make Your Online Degree More Affordable With These Scholarships

If you’re planning on getting your degree online, here are some scholarships that can help cut your costs.

There was a shift to online learning before the coronavirus hit the scene. Now that it’s here, even more people are looking to get their degrees online.

While safety is one benefit of online education, so is the ability to cut your costs in more ways than one. Without having to go to class or be on campus, you can stay where you are and avoid relocation costs.

You can cut your transportation expenses. And if you have kids to look after, you can reduce childcare costs by studying at home while keeping an eye on them. To top it all off, you can also create your own schedule.

Even with all of those benefits that distance learning can bring, you still may find advanced education outside your budget. If that’s the case, know that there are plenty of scholarships to make online education more affordable.

Here is just a sampling. Once you are done with this list, you can start looking for others by searching for “online student scholarships” and the like.

Don’t fret if you don’t see any scholarships on this list that pertain to you. Remember that it’s just a sampling and a bit of motivation to help you start a search of your own.

Online Learning Scholarships

AAIA Displaced Homemaker Scholarship

The Association on American Indian Affairs put this scholarship together to help Native American parents go back to school after raising their children. You’ll need to be a member of a Native American tribe to qualify, and you must also be at least 35 years old.

What can this scholarship example show you? That there are awards for adult students too, and there’s no age limit for scholarships, as long as you look hard enough.

Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund

Are you a woman who earns a low income and is 35 or older? If so, you could qualify for this scholarship that helps women pursue the dream of getting their first college degree. On the average year, this fund offers scholarships to over 90 applicants.

P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education

This grant is offered to adult women who are looking to complete certification or receive their degrees. You can be enrolled in college courses or technical school, and online programs fit the bill too.

If you qualify for this award, you could receive up to $3,000 in the form of a grant that does not have to be paid back. You can then use the money towards fees, tuition, or textbooks, but not housing expenses.

Study.com Distance Learning Scholarships

As you can tell by its name, this scholarship is offered to students participating in distance learning. Unlike many scholarships or grants, this award does not consider financial need. Instead, you will be judged on your grades and extracurricular activities, as the Study.com committee is seeking well-rounded students to offer this $500 award.
